What? ZOOM Dog Behavior sessions?

We are so grateful to have been able to connect with Kim over Zoom during this season of Covid-19 limitations! We weren't sure exactly what to expect with a Zoom training session at first, but Kim immediately set our minds at ease with her incredible wealth of knowledge right off the bat. From the moment we connected online, it felt like Kim was on our team to help our new rescue pup Lido get settled in to his new home. When we explained what we needed help with, Kim was able to help give us a lot of context for his behaviors and taught us how our own behavior can help influence Lido towards the positive outcomes we wanted to see. We learned so much in our initial session and came away with a great deal of specific tools and techniques to begin trying right away. Lido learned several new things before our first session was even over! Furthermore, Kim was able to demonstrate these techniques on her screen with her own dog, and then was able to watch us practice on Lido in our own home, so it really wasn't a problem to not be together in person. Kim is excellent at demonstrating and explaining what we were supposed to be doing, and gave us super helpful feedback as we were getting the hang of it with Lido. Kim's response time to emails in between sessions is also super speedy, so when we've had questions in between meeting we've gotten a ton more information at our fingertips right away. I am so grateful to have Kim as a resource despite Covid keeping us from meeting in person. If anyone is considering whether Zoom sessions are worth it, I can confirm that they most certainly are!

"Poppy" Kovala “We are SO grateful to have connected with Kim. I am still wondering why we didn’t call her sooner! Our pup like most has a wild side that we didn’t even know was actually anxiety induced! Kim had answers and tricks for every concern we had. One of Poppy’s biggest fears was the groomer. When Kim promised us she could train Pop to be one of the most well behaved pup’s at the groomer, we laughed. BUT SHE WAS RIGHT! After a few weeks of continued training, exercises, & a small dose of medication for anxiety from my veterinarian, Poppy went from the worst to the absolute best patient at the groomer! We are forever thankful for everything Kim has taught us all while giving Poppy a happier, stress free life! We would recommend her services to anyone! Every pup & owner deserves training like this.” |

Maggie Mae Burho
Kim, we can’t express enough how thankful we are for the invaluable lessons/training you provided for all of us (our dog Maggie Mae, as well as my husband AND myself) in working together on obedience training for the specific issues we were having.
Maggie Mae is very responsive when we call and in a stay by our side. Doing great walking unleashed on the trails, getting ready for grouse season, she will have no problem flushing birds! We are so proud & happy with her progress! It was really key that you were available and willing to provide one on one training here at our home so you could witness and address the specific issues we were having here, as our dog thankfully is able to be leash free with no fencing necessary on our property out here in the woods. It’s a wonderful, happy life for her and us!

Kim's expertise has helped us twice with canine behavior problems in our home. The first time she helped us understand the behavior of a sweet but hyperactive miniature poodle. The pup was a rescue and perhaps her former home shaped her behavior but in any case even as long time dog owners we needed help!
Kim came for a home visit and was able to educate us on the dog's behavior. She gave us some ideas on how to manage and modify the behavior. Her observations were really valuable! With time we had sweet little dog and a happy home.
We recently added a new puppy into the mix. Kim has visited a number of times and helped us manage some jealousy issues with the poodle and some challenges with the new puppy.
She diagnosed the motivation for some aggression of our older dog towards the puppy. This was really disturbing but after learning what caused the behavior and how to mitigate it we now again have a happy home.
I think of Kim as our local "Dog Whisper". Her ability to diagnose the problem and suggest solutions for managing and modifying difficult behaviors are invaluable! Patty Sampson
Best to you Kim!

Harley

We were referred to Kim by our vet after struggling to train Harley our 7-month-old lab. Some of the habits we were struggling with were the biting and jumping on friends and family, excessive barking, taking food or anything in her path. We were bruised, scratched, and completely exhausted from chasing this dog to take things from her so she would not destroy them. Just to take things away took two adults as she was aggressive and would want to bite and show dominance. We knew Harley was getting dangerous for our family to be around her, but we could not let her go as she was a family member. We reached out to Kim in hopes that she could help bring out the good side of Harley that we knew was inside of her.
Kim came to our house to meet Harley and observe her with our family. It was embarrassing to see how horrible Harleys behavior was. We knew Kim would be leaving with scratches and bruises from Harleys jumping and hearing nonstop barking. Halfway through our visit Kim started showing us how she used positive behavior modification to teach Harley leadership. We watched and were amazed as to how she taught her to make eye contact with her and leave it. We thought she was doing well until we were told she is just not getting it. We knew we were in for some long stressful weeks ahead, but were told to stick with it no matter how our day was going. We pushed through and followed exactly as we were told. Two weeks later Kim came back and we were so proud to show how well Harley was doing. We learned a few new things in that visit to work on for the next few weeks. Over the next three weeks we noticed Harley was so much calmer as we would use positive rewards for when she made good choices versus telling her no for her bad choices. She no longer was pinning the children down to the ground or lunging at me and biting me.
Every day is still a learning process for Harley but with these tools when Harley is acting out I can tell her to go to her mat and she knows her place and to calm down. When she is running around I can say watch and she will turn her head to make eye contact with me. When visitors come over she can calm down much sooner after the initial visitor shock.
Without Kim’s help I don’t know how we would be functioning as a family with Harley and thankfully we do not have to worry about it anymore. Kim with K9 Dynamix is amazing and we would recommend her to anyone who needs a little help with their fur baby!

Cocoa
A big thank you to Kim for helping me with Coco's behavior challenges! Your home visits were so helpful in assessing some challenging behaviors.
Yesterday I hosted a luncheon and after some initial enthusiastic greetings she settled down and behaved beautifully. This is such a wonderful change from her former behavior!
Your insight into canine behavior helped one little poodle and her owners change a stressful relationship into a fun and loving bond!
Thank you from Coco and Patty.

Lucy
Dear Kim:
It's difficult to find the words to thank you enough for what you have done for our family. You've had such a major impact on our lives and on our dog's behavior! The effort you put in to help us solve our problems with our adopted dog from Animal Allies here in Duluth has been beyond extraordinary.
As you know from previous conversations we had been without a pooch for over three years, as it was so difficult to replace our departed Bailey, a wonderful rescue dog. We decided to adopt another rescue pup from Animal Allies last fall, but weren't prepared for what we got. Lucy the Labradoodle was more than a handful. But this would be the fourth dog we would adopt over the past three decades and felt confident we could handle anything a new canine could throw at us. Wow.....we were surprised. The extent of her chewing, the difficultly in potty training, and the overall energy level was far beyond what we expected.
After nearly three months of devoting day after day of working with her on our own we were on the brink on returning her to Animal Allies Humane Society. We had fallen in love with her, but she had simply become overwhelming. You came to our home to work with us "one on one" and Lucy started to improve, but challenges remained and her continuing accidents on our carpet became intolerable. You then offered to go far above and beyond the call of duty, and took Lucy to your home for two weeks of "boot camp" training. We were floored that you would let her impose upon your personal life and thrilled to have the opportunity to avoid returning her to AAHS.
Having her spend two weeks at your home with your dogs, learning more appropriate behavior was more than we could have expected, but then you surprised us again! When the two week period had ended and it was time for Lucy to come home, you offered to stay overnight at our home to make sure that the trainers learned the same things that the pooch had been taught. It was an educational and humbling "stay-over". Your efforts were beyond helpful, educational, and a real victory for entire family. We're now confident Lucy has found her permanent home and that we are much better equipped to handle this energetic girl. In many ways, you are a real life-saver!

We had the pleasure of working with Kim for several months this year in addressing separation anxiety and other behavioral issues with our adopted dog. Kim came to our house and met our family – connecting instantly with each of us and making us feel at ease. Over the next few months Kim not only came to visit us often but also stayed in touch by phone and email – always concerned with our progress and how we all were doing. She was responsive to our needs, comforting throughout and component in her approach. Rather than requiring us to invest in costly equipment upfront she was kind enough to let us borrow her personal gear so that we could see what worked and what didn't – making it easy and convenient for us to try new approaches to our frustrating situation. Kim was consistent, calm, easy going, and kind through out. She has a natural presence and true passion for animals that is evident in all of her work. Kim was innovative and dedicated in her approach, always willing to try new efforts. She even provided us with multiple videos of our dogs’ behavior that she also shared with colleagues to get additional opinions and insight on her work. She comforted our family through difficult decision making – addressing us with time and patience. We would highly recommend Kim for any behavioral issues you are facing with your pets. She was a pleasure to work with through a difficult time and we were lucky to have her support and expertise throughout.

Carly
In January of this year,my car was rear ended at a stop light. Our dog Carly was in the car at the time. Since the fender bender, I noticed that Carly would shake excessively in the car. At first I thought she was cold. That was not the case. Carly used to love the car rides. Now she didn't like the word "ride". I called the vet, who suggested to try Kim from K9Dynamix. It was nothing short of amazing the change that took place with Carly. Kim worked with Carly and showed us how to reaquaint Carly to the car. Carly no longer shakes and actually looks forward to car rides once again. Thank you Kim! Artyce Fredlund

Mika
I first met Kim last fall at the recommendation of NSVH. Our son was living with us with his 10 month old Staffie. As doggie-grandparents, we were helping with his care and needed some guidance with his assertive behavior. Kim had very practical suggestions for us and followed up with an action plan and reassured us we could check in any time. My husband and I were immediately impressed with her ability to assess our situation and knew if needed we would be calling on her again. Fast forward, hubby and I have adopted a terrier lab mix, 4 months old named Mika, who we lovingly refer to as 'the pistol'. As new puppy parents (a first for us) we knew we wanted to incorporate Kim's expertise into the raising of our special little lady. Kim again made a house call and immediately became a fast friend to Mika. She answered my numerous questions and gave us a good starting foundation for the training process. Kim not only is knowledgeable of the problem issues with our furry friends but the basics of how to get us off to a good start. We look forward to continuing to work with her as our pup becomes a young adult.
